Software for simcha halls, caterers and the businesses around them

These businesses have a specific and unforgiving problem: the date is fixed, the customer only does this a few times in their life, and a double booking is not a scheduling error — it is a serious one.

How it usually works today

  • Bookings in a diary, with deposits tracked separately or not at all.
  • Two enquiries for the same date handled by whoever picks up first.
  • Rental stock and its cleaning or alteration turnaround tracked on paper.
  • Vendor coordination across several simultaneous events held in somebody's head.
  • Proofing rounds and production queues managed by email thread.

A rotating inventory is not a calendar

Gown rental is the clearest case: the fitting appointment is only real if the gown is back, cleaned and altered in time, and the alteration takes as long as it takes. The booking and the physical item are one constraint, not two. Systems that model this as a calendar plus a stock list produce confident bookings that cannot actually be honoured.

Deposits are the part that causes arguments

Most of the friction in this trade is about what was paid, what was agreed and when. Recording the deposit against the booking, with a receipt the customer can find later, removes almost all of it. It is not a sophisticated feature and it is consistently the one that pays for itself first.

Season

This is a business that does much of its year in a few concentrated periods. The system has to be comfortable when six events are in flight at once, which is a different requirement from being comfortable with one.
